Resumo

The urban sprawl, without an urban planning, had been increasing the conflicts in the cities. Particularly, the infraction of the Federal Law 4771 /65 - named Forest Code - is very common, as the irregular occupations in protected areas, mainly in Permanent Preservation
Areas - Áreas de Preservação Permanente (APP). This study aims to
analyze the occupation dynamic in the APP according to socioeconomic characteristics in the São José dos Campos municipality/Brazil. The multiple regression model was applied to verify the relation between socioeconomic characteristics (independent variables) and the APP occupations (dependent variable).
